What was the finish again? I remember Cena coming down, and there being a brawl at ringside w JBL's security. and JBL being distracted, and Punk hitting a sloppy GTS to retain. Im serious, what else was there, that made it so "genius"?

Looks like IM in a minority on the show, which is fine. We'll see how things go in the weeks ahead. At least it should be some fresh stuff.

I think it was a great move because while Punk has been an ECW champion and a top ECW brand star, he is not yet considered a major player in the larger WWE brands. So to establish him, they put together an excellent feud with JBL in a very short period of time. Basically JBL brought a war to Punk. JBL is an effective and convincing communicator and when he puts his all into it, he can bring a lot of heat to a feud.

Then you had Cena and Cryme Time, arguably some of WWE's most popular Superstars come down to assist Punk, giving him instant credibility with the young WWE fans.

I was watching the roller derby doc and missed all but the last 35 minutes or so of Raw. I was in shock when I found out Punk won the belt, and even more in shock when he kept it over JBL. They will have some work to do as the crowd didn't really seem to pop for him in his title defense, but this is a HUGE step in the right direction. I like the Cena/Cryme Tyme alliance too, it's a natural combo. (Albeit an odd fit with Punk.)

If Punk keeps the belt into the fall, we could be looking at a really good Punk/Orton series.

IMO they made both Punk and Kingston look a bit weak - Jericho basically beat himself with that blatant DQ - but at least they kept the belts on them.

Well, Jericho squirmed out of Kingston's pin attempt while grabbing the tights. A believable scenario would be that Kingston could have done the same.

I missed the last few minutes of RAW last night. I taped it so I could watch it after work today and the timer quit right before CM Punk hit the G2S so I didn't catch much more than "he won" after that.

I'll be pissed if CM Punk is just a transition champ and it makes its way back to Cena. I'd like to see him take a couple steps back rather than have that wigga shoved down my throat.

I think a Punk/JBL feud would carry well into the weeks ahead. They're complete opposites idealogically: A cowboy-hat wearing right wing big businessman versus a ...well...a punk. Their in-ring styles are complete opposites: JBL is the old deep south-style tough-as-nails brawler while CM Punk relies more on martial arts background. Not to mention, there's an obvious size difference between the two.

Though I never really got Punk's appeal and to this day I still really don't, I like seeing someone else be the champ on RAW.

Other things of note:

While the way Kingston maintained the title kept Y2J looking strong and kept the "being cheated" type angle going, it devalues Kofi just a bit. I'd like to see a strong victory from him in the near future.

Santino Marella: entertaining as always.

Cody Rhodes is better as a heel, but he's still greener than chlorophyll and would be nowhere if his dad wasn't an established name in the business.

This is the first RAW that managed to excite me since I was 15.

You're one of the ones who complained the most about the same old people in the title scene. Then when they finally decide to put all their titles on some new people, you still bitch.

No, I just don't see what was "that special". Of the two changes tho, I think the Punk one is a bit better. Kofi is entertaining, but I am not much of a fan..Still, like I said earlier, maybe I just had PMS. as I had something to deal with today..

Maybe you should take into consideration that last night was the first time a "main" title (WWE/World) switched hands on Raw since July of '06, and the last time a main title switched hands on Raw before that was February of '02.

So much flesh...so little time.

CM Punk = Ratings: Who would've thought?

The quarter hour ratings were released for this week's WWE Raw and there's some for CM Punk. The highest rated segment of the show by far was a 4.12 for the overrun featuring new World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk's first title defense against JBL. WWE shook things up with the draft and followed up with a strong show with new faces on top. Some ratings momentum could secure somebody like Punk in a top position.
