What is the TRP match at the show? They are ACW's and Brandon's neighbor in Fall River. I bet they have something really special planned. |

You're trying to raise money for a sick kid, and this is the card you put together? Poor kid is worse off than I thought. |

What's wrong with it? Many of the promotions are sending title matches and such too, and it looks fine to me, and I hope it raises a lot of money for Brandon. |

I think many of you will be surprised what match ends up being called Match Of The Night. Right now, I'm willing to put money on Hagan vs Dylan as match of the night. A grizzled vet in Rob Hagan and a rising rookie star in Eric Dylan.
As for Top Rope having something special planned. Nobody needs their help. They'll be out of Fall River in less than a year, I guarantee. |

People don't understand that in Fall River, you don't need TV stars or legends or anything like that. Fall River and New Bedford are very similar in my show viewing experience, they come to see who they know. When I used to go to the Top Rope shows a few years back, Brickhouse Baker was Fall River and New Bedford's The Rock or Stone Cold. I'm really thinking this show will do great, and I hope it does too. |

Yeah, I think its going to be good wrestling, and again, all the talent who are doing the show should be commended for donating their time and such to this event. The bottom line though is to raise some good money for Brandon. |

Only a Super-Moron would make a comment like that. Everyone participating should be commended for doing so. And dipsticks like you should be supporting it, not crapping all over it. |

I hope this show is getting lots of local promotion because of the important cause, but some local people said they haven't seen anything in newspapers, TV or radio. The posters are not good, to say the least. How do they sell tickets online without a website? What can fans on the burning hammer do (other than at least show up---it's ridiculous guys like Ghost have to go to two friggen' NEPW shows in one weekend instead of supporting this great cause)? What is with Brandon's neighbor, TRP? |

Unfortunately, we have had July 11th booked for a show for months now, so we will not be sending a match.
However, some of our usual roster chose to do this benefit show instead of our show on July 11th, which we do not mind and actually approve of with no hard feelings. |

I just checked out the ACW website---it was last updated in 2004. I think we can see where this show is going and it's a shame. Get your act together---these guys are making great sacrifices to be there, the armory is generously donating the venue and they don't make the effort to update your site with 1 week to go? |

Tiger, I'm surprised the site hasn't been updated, which I don't understand either. That said though, how do you know what kind of local promotion, etc. has been done up there? Id assume thats been taken care of. |

Though its not really relevant, as of now Im attending a non wrestling event on July 11, plus costs to get back to Fall River, and work tend to be another reason. I did send them some things for their raffle to help raise money, so Im trying to help out in that way.Anyways, I just figured they were handling the local advertising up there. I don't live in Fall River or the area, so I don't know, but its an assumption.
Far as NEW, they don't really have their "own roster" to send a match, cept a guy like Xavier, the rest of the roster pretty much works all over.
Perhaps ACW can address some of your questions. |

EPW drew 600 a few months back in Fall River with national tv stars. You are correct that TRP drew well with Baker but they also had small houses with him to. You need to do your homework before you compare your size of your dick with someone. Just be happy you have two completely products to choose from because Independent Wrestling is better off with it. |
Anyone that can draw good houses with guys unknown out of their own immediate area, even if it doesn't happen every single time, is doing something right.
The New Bedford/Fall River area is an anomaly in local wrestling. My first match ever was at the Whaling City Festival in 1989 (I believe the annual event happens in July, so happy 19th anniversary to me). I wrestled out of that area primarily for 5 years, as when I got into it a lot of wrestling was still "closed" but the area had what was one of the few "Independent" promotions at the time. The local promotion was then known as "Whaling City Wrestling". Back then, The area was economically depressed, and has remained so to this day. It also has a heavy Portuguese population. The combination of strong ethnic roots and a need for many of the citizens to be a very tightly bonded community for support flows over into many activities; that includes the wrestling.
That combination created a strange dynamic in the area, where everybody knew everybody else either personally or through another person. It harkens it back to the old Italian, Irish and other ethnic only neighborhoods of Boston and New York. It's more diverse than that, but that kind of dependence on your neighbor doesn't exist many places anymore. In New Bedford/Fall River it does. That turned wrestling-which was exceedingly popular in the area to begin with-into part sports event part family and friends get together. Many of the fans knew or were related to the wrestlers, and they in turn interrelated with the other fans there. The wrestling events became as much social gatherings as they were shows. Because of this, the shows have always seemed to draw better down that way. Of course, certain guys would get over better than others-but it was nearly always the VERY local guys who were the most "over" and if anyone "drew" people, it would be guys like Brickhouse Baker (who I haven't seen in around 14 years when he himself had just started but worked his balls off), the deceased Bobby Morran, “Blade Runner/Reverend Redemption“ and about 3 dozen guys who‘s names escape me at the moment.
Guys like me, Scott Taylor, Rick Fuller, Steve Ramsey, Phil Apollo, if anything, were probably put over WAY too much based on the sole benefit of being from out of town (It has been said you can tell a guy is an expert because he's from out of town and has a briefcase). Our best use was frankly, as a foil for the local crew. I always thought we got put over too much down there, as the bread and butter of the local promotions down there was so obviously the local crew it wasn’t even funny. Oddly enough, I always though that out of the “outsiders”, I connected the best out the group. I don’t attribute that to any skill on my part, but more with a similarity in backgrounds I have with a lot of people in the area. At any rate, I’m grateful, as without the area I wouldn’t have had anywhere to cut my teeth and learn to wrestle beyond a wrestling school. I constantly tell people that I used to have severe self confidence problems, and that learning to perform in front of groups cured me of it and has helped me in many other areas of my life. Without that Southeastern corner of Massachusetts help and some crowds rather tolerant of my learn on the job performances, I really don’t know how I would have turned out.

Everyone should ignore the morons that talk shit on this board and realize that what people say on this board doesn't mean anything. Doing a charity show for a sick child is nothing but commendable and that's the bottom line regardless of what people think about the quality of the promotion or the card. Anyone that cares to shit on people trying to do such a good thing is a scumbag and a shithead in my opinion. |

With the event less than a week away, I'm hoping those within the ACW company itself used the means as we did back in 2004 during my nephew Christophers show. Fall River had a very large turn out at Fall River Heritage Park for the annual fireworks last night, It would have been a perfect opprotunity to hand out some flyers for the event less than 5 minutes away up the street for the few thousand who were there.
Also, I'm not sure If they ran any commercial ads to run during Raw, Smackdown etc.... that has always been a positive thing to do for local events that seem to work out but since I'm behind on RAW episodes, can't really tell you if It did happen.
Just some advice, Since the show is less than a week away, Pound the pavement, Hand out endless flyers, contact local radio and request air time for the cause and attend local ball games as I believe Brandon played local ball so canvas those games and fans with flyers as people talk and will tell others.
Business establishments are very good on hanging posters that are for a worthwhile cause. I'm hoping for the best so that Brandon can have something to remember for those who attended to support his cause.
Best of luck guys...
