On a personal note...I hate the word "workrate", possibly more than the snowflake rating system for matches. Either you work hard or you don't.
Unfortunately, as I've mentioned before, most people on here think a worker sucks if he can't do twenty gazillion moves during a match, regardless of the effort said worker puts in.

I remember Raven in one of the DVDs for the Secrets of the Ring series he did with ROH saying that today in wrestling there are really two types of wrestlers - Workers (Hogan, Savage, guys who can work the crowed with their expressions more than moves) and then the athletes (AJ Styles, guys who can get the crowd going based on their athletic ability to do crazy moves.) Of course you have guys in between, which is where the WWE stops the athletes from being out right athletes (with the except of a few).

Sadly most people would never take a moment to distinguish the difference between wrestlers. It's sad people think a wrestler sucks if he can't do a lot of moves. Goldberg was over because he could work a match. Hogan could hardly do anything and he got over. Heck, Vince McMahon couldn't wrestle if his life depended on it, but was capable of working a match.

If only people would educate themselves better?

Why does this happen when I mention how I don't like how things are run in the WWE?

I'd like to state for the record that I am not obsessed with technical wrestling. I'm not some blogging smark who orgasms every time there's some matwork.

I said "It's not his workrate that bothers me" to SEPARATE myself from Cena haters who go apeshit every time he does his "5 magic moves." Because unlike them, I realize that's more of a behind-the-scenes problem than a problem with his skills personally. WWE hardly ever pulls out a great match for the cable TV crowd and, for the most part, has their performers save their A-Game for the PPVs. And I also realize that's for economic reasons as well as preserving their top talent as best as they can.

What I DO like to see though is good ring-work. I like seeing the match flow naturally, I like seeing highspots balanced with some chain skills so it's not a complete spotfest, I like seeing people working with each other to sell each other's moves, and I like seeing some illusion of real competition. WWE is grossly lacking in that. I also LOVE seeing well-delivered/written/phrased/etc. promos. With notable exceptions, WWE is lacking in those too.

I have NOTHING against Cena as a worker or a person, but EVERYTHING against how the WWE uses him, amongst other performers.

So those so motivated to pick me apart every time I dare utter the word "technical," who foam at the mouth and start yelling "WRESTLING IS NOT ALL ABOUT MOVES! YAR YAR BLAR BLAR BLAR!" and start instantly grouping me in with obese nerds with poor hygeine, your assumptions about me are wrong.

Well whether he does it or the writers make him do it, it irritates me.

I also don't like how much his merchandise is pushed... It reminds me of Hulk Hogan and I always liked Savage as a little kid.

He's the top babyface. When Savage WAS in that position, they didn't push the Young Stallions gear either.

Good point, MAV. Seriously. And you know, for all the Cena hate you hear, there were alot of those $50 Cena jerseys in the crowd, myself included. Then again, I am not one to hide my admiration for Cena.

Um, I don't. And I wasn't going to buy it but my son convinced me that I deserved it. He's kinda right.

I would never spend 50 bucks on wrestling merch.

I'd spend upwards of that for a replica belt, but that's it.

I have bought some autographs and stuff in person, and on ebay, and paid 26.00 for a Flair Signed book w a good guarantee. Otherwise, I think the most I ever paid was 20.00 for a Piper autograph, and merch wise, prob 20 for a T Shirt once.

WWE sucks in people like Holly and others who are so "hooked on wrestling" that they can't resist, I gotta have it deal. Its one reason they make sooooo much money...
