legitimate tips" from someone who never really was trained? i've seen your matches giusti and they're nothing to be proud of. you reek of backyard. as for chops, it's funny how you post about this being for idiots. just because you don't agree with an "old school initiation" doesn't mean its wrong. i'm waiting for the day that someone takes you to task for your know it all attitude and gives you another old school treatment, a good stretching. maybe that will take your tremendous holier-than-thou attitude down a friggin notch. its a perfect example of why you are an outsider in any locker rooms other than ncw.

ITT: the first person ever who might actually be bitter because of MTE
Well this is a tough choice here, who to side with. On one hand we've got Maverick Wild and Bob Evans, two of the greatest workers and most respected trainers in New England who agree that excessive chopping "to teach respect" is a bad thing and on the other hand....
this dude....
maybe if we knew your name good sir, but instead you're just another unknown, masked avenger making the world a better place (and getting to stroke your own ego) by leaving some welts on kids during a fake fight. |

There's been some great advice here for you. I would stress shut your mouth, open your ears the most. That was my problem when I started. I thought I knew everything and didn't need to listen to anyone. Then I met Sonny Goodspeed, Steve Bradley Rip Morrision.......and they all helped me stop being a putz.
I would also suggest that you ask questions when you have them and pay attention even if the trainers aren't working with you, still pay attention to what is going on with the other students. Study tapes of the past, and I mean 60's 70's 80's etc... esp Georgia Championship wrestling, Florida etc....not for the moves, but to learn pyschology of the matches, when to do certain things. What the babyface is doing, what the heel is doing etc....learn timing etc,,,,Please do not start thinking of music and ring attire yet.
I wish ya the best of luck. It's going to be tough at first, but if you want it bad enough, you'll stick it through and you'll end up being happy you did.

To the guy who was shitting on MTE, you can debate whether or not he's a *New England House-hold Name* or not... but those are pretty good tips for a newcomer.
Some things from a nobody who had 7+ first days... I hopped from school to school to try to round out my training. I also taught new guys at Slamtech some years back. Now I do fight choreography classes for local community theaters so I more or less only deal with "greenies". Here's what I'd recommend.
Before you arrive
* Dress comfortably.
* Bring water.
* Wear knee-pads.
* Leave early enough to get there on time or early.
When you get there
* Be respectful to EVERYONE.
* Don't try to impress by doing more then the trainer says to do.
* If your confused about something, please ask.
* Be friendly to your classmates, they will be your closest friends while wrestling. (Hi Venom!)
* If you seriously hurt yourself, speak up immediately.
When you leave
* You will have bruises from the ropes, this will go away.
* You will be in pain the next day, these pains subside over time. What is painful today will be nothing later in life when your body adjusts.
Action tips:
* Deflate your lungs when you fall, you won't knock the wind out of yourself that way.
* Don't drag your feet... ever.
* Walk, Talk, Move, Breathe and Blink like you mean it. Doing anything in the ring half ass looks sloppy and promotes injury.
-- If anyone ABUSES you it's NOT OK.
-- If Bob & Mav says your trainer isn't worth your time, and they agree, they are telling you the truth.
You are not going the WWE this year, get it out of your head. You are going to be a wrestler and have some really wonderful times. You are going to push yourself and grow as a person. What you do after that is up to you and chance.
Have fun! |

Well now it looks like I won't be able to do it on the 20th:
I went to see a doctor about some problems I've been having around my belly button, and the doc seems to think I MIGHT have a hernia or some other kind of tear in my navel and wants me to take it easy for a couple weeks until I get to see a specialist and get some x-rays done!
So I'm hoping this is just a minor injury that doesn't keep me laid out or worse, needs surgery. |
