- Jumping in place in the middle of the ring before running the ropes to dive out to the floor -
I am so sick of this practice of telling the audience, "All eyes on me! I'm going to do a high spot!"
I prefer the tactic of surprising people with a dive to the outside. Better yet is a dive onto someone other than the person everyone's expecting you to dive onto. |

An element of unpredictability will have fans paying more attention to the matches. |

I've been watching old ECW tapes from just over ten years ago and this phenomenon of jumping in place in the center of the ring (like Austin Aries and Matt Cross) wasn't there. To me, and evidently to the ECW fans, it is thrilling to be surprised by an out-of-the-ring dive. |

I remember when Jimmy Rave turned heel in CZW and started this. Was priceless. Move the barricade, get a guy on the outside, do all the taunts then slide out of the ring and put the guy in a headlock.
Homicide is known for twisted as fuck out of nowhere torpedo like assaults on the crowd. |

Me too. I have thought for the longest time "Why even aim at the guy I'm supposed to be wrestling"? So, I started targeting people that had absolutley nothing to do with the match. In fact...me and a few of the boys have turned it into a game and have devised a point system.
Diving on ringside photographer/video person: 10 points
Referee: 15 points
Ring Announcer: 20 points. 5 bonus points if it's Bobby Cruise, and half the medical bills paid when you have his microphone removed from you anus.
Promoter: 25 points
Loudmouth chanting "ECW", "We want tables" or "We want blood": 30 points; 5 points extra if he/she was swearing in front of children, 200 points extra if it can be proven they paid fair market value for the "Physical Abruze...the Best of Rocko Abruzzi" DVD.
Anyone wearing a beer hat: 35 points; 25 bonus points if they're wearing a Bush/Chenny in 2000 T-shirt; another 10 bonus points if sleeves are cut off.
Building owner: 40 points and bail money for the night.
Hitting a midget: 50 points (for creativity and really good aim).
All above are applicable to a bonus of +5 points for every 2 ft over 5 ft the victim is standing away from the ring.
Deductions:
Landing in a manner that would protect the victim: -10 points and a one show suspension from the game.
"Airball" (hitting nothing): -15 points and a two show suspension.
Landing on Gray Ghost: -20 points and a 3 show suspension because...well, because otherwise everybody would be aiming for him and it would take the element of skill, suprise and difficulty down too many nothches.
Making contact with your opponent: -150 points and an indefinate suspension from the game. |

Ive seen fans wiped out, a video guy clobbered, but still holding the camera up high. Up next, a photog needs to be wiped out, I dont think Ive ever seen that, but would LOVE to really soon. |

| So Mav, what's your high score on that? |
I'm currently running a distant 4th place at 505 points for the year behind Kid Mikaze (pack leader, 925 points), Kid Krazy (2nd with 875 points) and Bryan Logan (680 points). I'd be even further behind, but I forgot to add that I get a bonus 15 points per occurance due to the fact I'm heavier than most "divers" out there and the degree of difficult is higher for me. I also am better at waiting for the high point targets to be around. It's kind of like someone going for a big kill quadruple word score in Scrabble. |
Am I stating the obvious when I say that there's no quadruple word score in Scrabble? |
House rules. Kind of like collecting the money in the middle of the board when you land on free parking in Monopoly, or being able to hip check your opponent in a rousing game of full contact Connect Four, or the ever popular Strip Sorry. Of course, my wife is always sorry when I strip (Yes! Cheap my wife hates me/small penis reference #100!).
PS: Joshua B. is a Scrabble geek. |
