Apex Wrestling of West Virginia, Mountaineer Wrestling Association of West Virginia and Ohio, North Atlantic Wrestling Association of Maine, and World Star Wrestling Federation of Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Ohio resigned from the AWA (American Wrestling Association) on April 30, 2008. Together with Championship Wrestling of Tennessee, we have started the American Wrestling Affiliates. The American Wrestling Affiliates promotions are together in a cooperative unit to better promote each individual territory.

American Wrestling Affiliates is not claiming to be either Verne Gagne's AWA or Dale Gagner's AWA. We are starting a new organization based on Brian Logan capturing the AWA World Heavyweight Championship from the then-champion Larry Zbyszko.

The promotions plan to exchange talent. That will give a broader base of work to those individuals. It will also give the promotions the opportunity to develop their own talent on a national basis. This will be accomplished by having our Recognized World Champions defending their championships in towns locally promoted by each territory.

The Real AWA plans to take independent wrestling to a respectable place once again. For any questions regarding the American Wrestling Affiliates or for interview requests, please contact awatalentcord@hotmail.com.

... *throws out his AWA North Atlantic Shirt* I hadn't even gotten a chance to wear it and now it's useless Laughing

I like the idea you guys have and it looks like you're trying to just focus it just nationally and distance yourself from the Dale/Vince legal battle.

BUT

I gotta say, as honest criticism and not an attempt to discourage you, the website doesn't look very good (it's simple and simple CAN look good but this looks like it was made in 1997) and your logo is rather... lackluster... Embarassed

I've got a few ideas for you, feel free to use them as you wish, just remember me for them. I'll send you a private message.

I like what you guys are trying to do.

My question is why call it the AWA. Dale Gagner and Johnny Stewart have fucked the name and lineage of the company up so damn badly, why would you want to be even considered the AWA by any of the fans?

I do like the fact that you guys split from them. They are a bunch of carnies. Good for you

It'll be interesting to see who NAWA brings to Maine.

I would also like to know when and where the Tag Titles are going to be crowned.

Well I think one of the big reasons they changed it is that they took the heavyweight title with them, which says "AWA" on it Laughing They're claiming the lineage up to when Brian Logan won it too.

But mostly I think they want to still associate with the name "AWA" and want to get publicity by creating interpromotional heat with AWA Superstars of Wrestling. (I mean the website URL is a little inflammatory: theREALawa.com).

And I gotta say, I find it funny that you'd denounce Gagner and Stewart as being carnies while you have an animation of one of the pinheads from Freaks. Laughing

Also, looking at the title history, I can think of 4 or 5 guys off the top of my head that have been omitted from the champions list

Because when he refers to them as carnies, he is summarizing them as con men, which was an unfortunate part of the old carny mindset. Pinheads, geeks and freaks are part of a more folklore-ish view of carny shows.

The last one never was advertised locally and didn't get cancelled untill that day.
I drove by that morning looking for a vehicle that might be big enough for a ring. Then saw it got cancelled.
I don't plan to buy tickets in advance!

Yes, I had realized his point and agreed with it. I was just commenting on the situational irony his post presented. Laughing

Yeah I only know about this one cause they posted a flyer at Brookfield Lanes where I bowl. They stole the original logo, didn't announce 1 match and they are charging like $25 for ringside (first 5 rows) and $15 or $20 for the rest. That is a rip off for a show like that.
