Jesse Ventura called into the Stern show this morning to plug his new book, after many years of mutually disliking each other. Robin was excited because she has been a big Jesse supporter after she saw him on Larry King and thought he made a lot of sense (??). That changed real quickly when Jesse went into his ridiculous 9/11 conspiracy theories, going into the specifics of building demolition and how the Towers were built to withstand airplanes and that they could not possibly have collapsed the way they did. Everyone respectfully questioned his theories (especially after he hung up), saying it makes everything else he says less credible. Jesse also talked a lot about his military days in Vietnam and his days as a Governor. He said he didn’t run for re-election because his wife had chronic fatigue syndrome (Howard in the past has said that disease is b.s. but he was silent here), and thankfully Howard’s own ridiculous reasons for dropping out of the 1994 New York gubernatorial race were never brought up. Jesse also said the stories of his son partying hard in the mansion weren’t true, that he wasn’t under age, and that the person who told the press was a disgruntled employee who had an axe to grind. Jesse said he would never vote for anyone part of the 2-party system, and discussed his opposition to the war. Howard asked the usual sex questions but Jesse wouldn’t really get into it.
Despite making an ass of himself with the conspiracy theories (he also said he believes Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone, which everyone on the show disputed after he hung up), Jesse was a hit with Howard. Howard admired his honesty and said he was a great guest, not realizing that he and everyone else in the studio are being worked by a good, charismatic talker. Jesse only did 15 minutes before having to hang up, and Howard begged him to come in the studio or call back in the future. When he hung up, Artie did a great Jesse impression and said Jesse was really funny when he was a WWF commentator (didn’t he say last week that anyone who watches wrestling is stupid?). They all agreed he was a great guest but they were taken aback by the 9/11 stuff. Howard said he couldn’t wait to read the book and claimed Jesse and his book would be #1 in Google searches after this interview.
