Lists are lame.
1) There's 20 bands ranked too high.
2) 2-8;12-18 aren't metal.
Bah! |
Metal elitists are amazing.
Judas Priest isn't metal? Dio? Metallica? Really? What are the criteria here? Is the idea that if the singer can actually sing, then it's not ***METAL***? Mind you, I like some thrash, death, and especially melodic death metal - for example, Arch Enemy are awesome - but it's not the only stuff there is. |

arch enemy hasnt been good since like 2001. their past few albums have been bad, very bad
also i think tauron was referring to bands like aerosmith, led zepplin, AIC, hendrix etc, he never said any of the bands you listed werent metal |

I was following his number references; all those bands were in #s 2-8 or 12-18.
And fwiw Hendrix was one the people who INVENTED metal. Also saying Zep wasn't metal is ridiculous, again, they are one of the frigging founders of the whole genre. [Understanding that we're talking Funk III's opinions, not yours.] No Hendrix, No Zep, no metal. Yes, it's that simple. Sabbath started out AFTER these guys were already around, and built on what they had laid down.
What's your opinion of Dark Tranquillity? I saw them recently and was really impressed. Same with In Flames when I caught them on Gigantour earlier this year. |

I believe Funk III was using the literary technique of hyperbole in order to make his point that many on the list were not really metal. The number symmetry 2-8, 12-18, is a metaphorical trope to further drive it home.
His response was not literal. |

influencing metal does not equal metal. led zep is not a metal band. did they influence metal? sure but that doesnt make them metal sorry dude. same goes with hendrix
i liked the "haven" album by dark tranquility but i havent listened to it in a while and havent been impressed with much else. was a big in flames jester race, colony fan then they got pretty lousy but i think "come clarity" is one of the best mainstream metal albums to come out in a while. their newest has some catchy songs but isnt as good |

Led Zep is fantastic, but not metal.
If influencing metal is all it takes to get on that list the cocaine, weed and jagermesiter should be 1, 2 and 3 |
Led Zeppelin II isn't a metal album? What is it then? |

Beats me. It used to be that when you wanted to give examples of "a heavy metal band", you automatically pointed to Zeppelin, Sabbath, and Purple. Now 2 out of 3 of them are apparently considered Not Metal.
