Because of the lack of shows this summer in the state of CT, I am seriously contemplating running one myself. Any suggestions as to where the best place to run might be?

Well, Id like to see something east of the CT River, as there is nothing up here, except EPW and NCW, that are up more in the NE corner, etc.

So, Im saying the Hartford County area, as there arent many shows, and its not just because I live near there either..

You are gonna be an "insta promoter". good luck, sounds like it won't be easy .

11-21UConn NCAA soccer vs Fairfield
11-22 Uconn Hockey vs RIT
11-24 WWE Raw
12-5 PGW
12-6 NEW
12-13 ECCW Sourbridge tbd
1-3-09 GHTBL Awards dinner. Bolton, CT.
1-10 FRW womens doubleheader show (tbd)
1-11/12 JACK IS BACK season seven.
1-16-09 EWA Palmer
1-31 Big Shot Mohegan Sun

Way to try to crush his dreams.

Don't listen to the Killjoy Mr or Mrs Cupcakes.

And don't take the application for ring announcer.

I'd run somewhere in Fairfield County because there is more population in that area and it's seriously underserved for indies, as before PGW there was nothing. However buildings will also be pricier and harder to find, so it might be a wash, plus you run the risk of stepping on toes. (Altho if the owners of the toes in question don't wanna run until October, how badly would you really be stepping on them?)

Otherwise the Hartford area might indeed be a good bet, again there are more people to draw from. Personally I probably wouldn't travel that far, but where ever you go you should be be concentrating your promotional efforts on the local area anyway.

CT is a TOUGH state to draw in, even ROH only does so-so here. Don't invest any $$ you aren't prepared to lose. DO make sure to do lots of local advertising. DON'T rely primarily on the internet, unless you want to draw 50 people.

Best of luck. I hope it works out. PM me if you want to discuss further.

You know what. How about a baseball bat to your knees, character.

Far as the ring announcing, I know I would do fine at any promotion. Not my decision to make though. so whatever.

And Cupcakes, I meant it isnt easy, for a first time promoter. you need to get the talent, and all that, and if people have never seen a show run by you, they may be hesitant about it. Of course, there has to be a starting point, so best of luck.

So you noticed there are fewer shows in the summer. Why do you think that is, Mr. Einstein? I think you should run your first show the middle of this summer.
As far as the best market for wrestling, I would have to say the Super Stop & Shop. They are spacious enough for a ring and you wouldn't have to bring in too many other Connecticut tomato cans.

If you do all the easy stuff like contracting the talent, renting the ring, and acquiring a location. I wouldn't mind helping you out by booking the show. Since it would be my first time as a booker, I'd like to help the CT Indy scene, and well... just because I'm generous, I would be willing to undertake this task for half the going rate.

I said HALF the going rate, not DOUBLE.

If you have to ask a question like that on a message board, you have no business promoting a show.

You'll have to call the Burning Hammer 900 number for that info.

Wrestling promoting is serious business. Pay your dues, kid. I suggest (and am sure people like Shilldon here will back me up on this) the best place to begin promoting is in the grassy area behind your home. Also its a good idea to use amateur talent, since they will work cheaper. The less experience a person has the more you will save and be able to put in the most important thing a first time wrestling promotion needs... a kick ass sound system. Trust me you will fail if people can't hear the entrance music. Oh and one last PRO-TIP for you. If you can't rent a ring, a bouncy castle will suffice.

How to promote a wrestling show:

Get a kilo of cocaine.
Find the "loose" girls at the local high school.
Rent a ring -- Use Dad's credit card, then report it stolen.
Post a card on the Burning Hammer -- Put down 10 local wrestlers, 5 TNA wrestlers, 5 has beens with drug habits.
Book at least 3 guys you know won't show, so you don't have to pay them. see www.wikipedia.com/sabu.
Go to the ROH show and put your flyers on all the cars.
Get a hummer from the Gay Ghost and promise him a free ticket.
Buy mad cow tainted hamburger.
Buy a case of soda.
Pick a weekend when NEW is running in Torrington.
Get ShawnO to ring announce.
Leave a bowl of baby powder in the dressing room and tell the wrestlers its coke.
Collect money at the door and take off to the Bahamas before the wrestlers need to get paid. Take a ring rat with you, and join the mile high club.

Congratulations, you are an Indy Promoter!!

Most people don't run many shows in the summer around here because this is New England. You have a viable 4 month window for activities outside, and most people don't tend to think having a guy in spandex swinging his sweat around a hall with no air conditioning is the best way to spend these hazy, crazy days. It takes a special kind of stupid to run this time of year.

You know...my kind of stupid.

Just to be clear, I wasn't asking the message board because I am clueless as where to run. I was just curious to see if I would get a number of similar responses so that I can choose the most successful area for what the people desire.
