Best comic book movie of all time and the best movie of the year. Not only lives up to the hype but surpasses it. Aaron Eckhart is great as Harvey Dent and Heath Ledger right now would be the number 1 guy in movies had he not passed away cause his performance is the greatest I have seen from any actor in a long time. Don't bring young children to this movie though which some people did and had to leave with their crying children. Though most of the violence is off camera it still brings some intense moments. It's action packed, edge of your seat heart pumping action around every corner. They do a nice job of filling in the loose ends from Begins and making this sequel feel like a continue of the first. Lots of great subtle humor from the Joker as well. A lot of sight gags and things not out in the open. The movie gets a 10 out of 10 from me and I can't wait for the next one. Everyone in the theater gave it a standing ovation which is rare.

agreed about Dent but Joker stole the show anyway. He even overshadowed Batman

me and my friend Steve had our um, err, date night i what i mean is, anyways we went to see the movie. i was still recovering from my broccoli and chicken adventure earlier in the week but my tummy made it through.anyways it was real good movie, not great(IMO) like I had heard but ill definitely see it again. lots of good stuff. i was surprised Dent was Two-Facing this movie,i thought they were setting it up for him to be the villain in the next one. a cameo by Scarecrow was surprising as well. lots of little twists and tense moments kept the movies flowing.

Good movie, kind of a crap ending though. Trying to be philosophical and sounded silly. Great action, good acting, good effects. I missed Katie Holmes though.

That's the alternate, Gray Ghost ending. Robin plays a prominent role.

Laughing Batman doesn't die (well no not really) and there was no pink costume unless if the screens color was messed up

'Dark Knight' sets box office record with $66.4M

Jul. 20, 2008 6:35 AM ET (AP)

Batman's joust with the Joker has set another box office record. Stoked by fan fever over the manic performance of the late Heath Ledger as the Joker, "The Dark Knight" set a one-day box office record with $66.4 million on opening day, Warner Bros. head of distribution Dan Fellman said Saturday.

The movie's Friday haul surpassed the previous record of $59.8 million set last year by "Spider-Man 3." "The Dark Knight" might break the opening-weekend record of $151.1 million, also held by "Spider-Man 3."

"I think they're in jeopardy," Fellman said of the "Spider-Man 3" records.

"The Dark Knight" began with a record $18.5 million from midnight screenings, topping the previous high of $16.9 million for "Star Wars: Episode III _ The Revenge of the Sith."

The opening day grosses for "The Dark Knight" far exceeded the full weekend haul of its predecessor, "Batman Begins," which took in $48.7 million in its first three days in 2005.

Reviews were excellent for director Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins," but they were stellar for his "Dark Knight."

"We've really never seen anything like this," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers. "The death of a fine actor taken in his prime, a legendary performance, and a movie that lives up to all the hype. That all combined to create these record-breaking numbers."

Buzz had been high for the Batman sequel well before Ledger died of an accidental prescription-drug overdose in January. Trailers last fall revealing Ledger's demented Joker, with crooked clown makeup, turned up the heat even more. The critical acclaim over his performance that built from advance screenings left fans in a frenzy.

"It's a combination of things. Certainly, that's a great part of it, but I think this movie's gross was partly because of the reviews it received and the incredible buzz and word of mouth that preceded it with our early screenings," Fellman said. "And the success and quality of the last one, `Batman Begins,' delivered by Chris Nolan just set the tone for the opening of this movie."

"The Dark Knight" reunites Christian Bale as Batman, the vigilante crime-fighter tormented by personal tragedy, and co-stars Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman. Maggie Gyllenhaal also stars.

The film spins an epic crime duel as Ledger's Joker orchestrates a reign of terror on the city of Gotham aimed to spread chaos and break down the restraint that keeps Batman on the right side of the law.

While critics are taking the film seriously enough to suggest Ledger could be in line for an Academy Award nomination, the action-packed movie also delivers as pure summer movie escapism.

"If you're worried about mortgage payments and gas prices, when you're sitting in `The Dark Knight' for two and a half hours, you're not thinking about any of that stuff," Dergarabedian said.

Dark Knight' sets weekend record with $155.34M

Jul. 20, 2008 10:09 AM ET (AP)

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ A Warner Bros. executive says the Batman sequel "The Dark Knight" has taken in $155.34 million to top "Spider-Man 3" for best opening weekend ever at the box office.

The figures released Sunday show "The Dark Knight" more than $4 million ahead of the $151.1 million first weekend for "Spider-Man 3" in May 2007.

Studio distribution chief Dan Fellman says "The Dark Knight" also broke the "Spider-Man 3" record for best debut in IMAX large-screen theaters with $6.2 million. "Spider-Man 3" opened with $4.7 million in IMAX cinemas.
