| Matt Striker has joined Tod Grisham on commentary for tonight's ECW telecast. Tazz has shifted to announcing Smackdown with Jim Ross. This probably isn't a permanent change, but until ECW airs, it won't be clear. It's probably a case of Mick Foley sitting out a week to sell the angle with Edge last week. It could also be a tryout for Striker should Foley leave WWE when his contract expired this fall (details of which prowrestling.net reported first this week). |

I thought that was probably the reason. I figured Foley would be out this week to sell the injury. I thought Matt did a fine job filling in BTW. |

Striker was AWESOME on commentary. I can't believe he was allowed to speak so eloquently. Usually WWE announcers have to be over the top. He was calm and well in control of his thoughts. Plus he was well-prepared. Most of the time he didn't sound as if he was forced to read from a script or forced to repeat headset instructions, although I'm sure he was. He played it off well.
The team of Striker and Grisham were a breath of fresh air. But I'm sure not high-energy enough for Vince so that won't last. They were probably both yelled at after the show.
I think when ECW originally re-launched with WWE, we were annoyed when the announcers were forced to portray the action as far more extreme than it actually was. I like the idea of the current announce team calling the action as it is. This week was not a particularly "extreme" show. Save the yelling for a time when it's warranted.
Also, I like the idea of Tazz and JR. JR should be able to bounce off of Tazz in the way he did with Lawler. |

He was good at getting his agenda across, but couldn't call holds and moves. I like a good play-by-play announcer who can keep up with fast-paced, in-ring action as well as tell the story.
I definitely miss Vince as announcer though. Very few are as charismatic. |

Vince's stuff in the 70's working for his father and the beginning of the expansion era was really good. He did get cartoonish once he begin the wrestlemania era in 85 but I never thought he was horrible. |
