The debut of Wild World of Wrestling was in trouble from day 1. The promoter was going it solo with no experience and the date selected was for an outdoor venue... very risky with the weather in Upstate NY.
However, come show-time, the rain seemed to let up just minutes before the opening bell. The Blackthorn Resort was very helpful in drying the ring to get the show started.
Vinny the Guido opened the show to the dismay of the crowd and got the heat early. He was quickly cut off by Commissioner of the WWW, Doink the Clown (knock-off). In a classic 80's style "You get your guy, I'll bring mine later tonight" the show was underway.
Dante Tamale got one of the biggest pops of the night as he took on an out of shape Tom Ugly, who had been out of the ring for nearly a year. The match was a rushed, but the crowd didn't care. Sloppy as it may have been, it got the crowd hyped for the rest of the show as Tom Ugly upset the debuting DDT. Miraculously, before victorious Ugly could leave the ringside area, DDT bounced to his feet and sprang to the top rope to pop the crowd.... then make-out with his loving wife as she watched his fair-handed debut. Congrats to the both of them for opening the WWW wth excitement.
Several other matches followed with several workers who need not wrestle again as they were wither out of shape, poorly finished gimmicks or la of psychology.
The Brazillian Hug Squad (Timmy Aiight/Bert Williams) took on the Killer Steves in a fan friendly, comic match that was full of gay schtick and clean old-school moves. A throwback to the old school and one of the mose pleasing to the crowd.
Chris Camaro/Malice faced off against N.E.W.'s own Underworld Cartel (Tiger/Titus Smith) in a match that was full of ups and downs. Even with the hated UWC pulling out the victory and bullying an injured announcer, they managed to earn a spot in the 8-man Championship match to close the show.
Shockwave The Robot (who fought and defeated "Mr. IT Factor himself" Brian Anthony) got involved with the crowd in a robot/break-dance off. He even went as far as having audience members join him in the ring afterwards. They ate it up. During intermission, Shockwave posed in the WWW ring to take pictures with the fans.
Nick "Neighborhood" Nilsin, Al Green and Chazz Moore had the match of the night. Full of some of the hardest hits and most crisp moves I've seen this year, they clearly stole the show.
Speaking of stealing... Brian Anthony was able to steal the first ever WWW Championship. After losing to Shockwave the Robot who came all the way to east Durham from Cybertron, Brian Anthony took it upon himself to become a part of the 8-Man Match for the title.
The winners of all the respective matches faced off in an 8-on-8 1 fall to a finish match to crown the Champion. As all fo the winners battled ringside, Brian snuck in for a quick cover as Referee 'Hot Bod' Todd counted to three count.
Reluctantly, Doink the clown made his way to the ring to present the first ever WWW Championship to the NEW Wild World of Wrestling Champion... Brian Anthony.
In my honest opinion the show was a huge success. Standing room only with drunken patrons coming in even after intermission from the bar. The only downside was that there was too much smoking under the tents with so many kids around and although I personally didn't care, there was a good deal of weed being smoked near the bon-fire. Had this been an 18+ event, there wouldn't be a single complaint.
Well done WWW, well done. Can't wait for the next show which I hear is in Syracuse later this month. |

I was hoping to get up there but alas the weather rolled in here just at departure time.
The people at the BlackThorne are good people I have known for many years.
Hope we get another show out of WWW.
P.S> the haunted house is pretty good there too! |

just got home, havent slept in 30+ hours ... will post full results and some videos within a few days. It took a lot of people to save this show from disaster, and i thank them from the bottom of the heart. all the workers were friendly respectful professional people. i must admit i barley got to see anything, but the crowd was great the whole not.
anyways i need sleep, but i want to thank you all again, and again and again, and i the next show will be even BETTER, that syracuse show will happen but may be moved ahead a week due to a workers scheduals. ill keep you all posted.

Sounds like a pretty entertaining show. I've only seen Shockwave the Robot lose once before. Up in Rutland, he was in a triple threat match, and got short circuited outside the ring and just completly shut down while the other two went for the finish. The ref had to carry him to the back. Other than that, I've never seen him lose. |
