Yep.
Any tips, well wishes, etc. from the workers who hang around here?
EDIT: And really, I'm earnestly asking for some honest tips and stuff because I'm nervous as fuck and will probably trip on the ring-ropes and faceplant first thing.
EDIT 2: And to anyone who I may have offended with stating my opinions on the business and its workings, I apologize. I'm a recovering smark, bear with me. |

Go in and tell the trainers everything you've been taught on this board before your first session. Really do that to impress them with your knowledge |

... Well Joey, I probably won't do that... I have a bad habit of sounding like a condescending know-it-all asshole and I don't think saying that would win me any favors. |

Repeat the following:
"I already know how to do all the moves and my work rate is awesome...I just need to know how to get into the WWE now"!
At the end of the night, let us know how many welts you have. |

You're not going to let me live down using the word "workrate" are you?
Joking aside, I'd like some honest tips. I'm quite nervous about it. |

Welts. You will have welts.
Ghost is right. Just listen to your trainers. And work your ass off.
I've seen what happens when a guy doesn't listen. He gave another worker a concussion that almost ended his career before it started. |

Keep your ears open, and your mouth shut.
Push yourself harder than the guy next to you.
Pay attention to what's happening in the ring, not around it.
And always, ALWAYS remember this....
You're there to learn, not to impress anyone. You know nothing, and you will know nothing for a very, very long time. Mistakes will happen in boat loads. Learn from them.
And stay off this board as much as humanly possible. It's the devil. |
I'm a turkey vulture.
I'm bald so that I don't get rotting flesh caught in my feathers.
To keep cool, I poop all over my legs and feet.
My main means of self defense is....
......projectile vomiting.
I am SO AWESOME!

*nod* Good advice, I'll take it into consideration
Oh, one more thing about this. It's not like a "first day of training school" thing, it's a "come 2 hours before the show and we'll let you try it out before you commit" thing. |

I'm not exactly in a postion to comment on someone's physique, but I don't think WWE wants a greasy-haired gremlin face with a concave chest like the one on the right....DemonicDavidDeacon
Welll....1st pointer...Probably not a good idea to put down other workers on this board considering you are training to be a wrestler....Dont want to have any hard feelings with fellow workers I would'nt think? Especially if they would be helping you out in a future match...

Here are some legitimate tips:
No matter how strong your natural compulsion is to do so, don't put your arms out to break your fall. Stay off your elbows. Friction burns and bruises are not cool scars and chics do not dig them.
Plant your damn feet when you hit the ropes and don't drag them for god sakes. If you notice the canvas bunching up next to where you hit the rope, pick up your damn feet; that's how canvases get torn up.
Do what's safe and what you feel comfortable doing. But at the same time, push your comfort zone. For example, if someone asks you to do a 450 splash off the top rope on day #1 of training, don't do it. (true story). Also, if you are working out to the point of vomiting... DONT. Physiologically vomiting from exercise is terrible for you. You are in control of your own body. Take a break if you need to (NEED to, NOT WANT to).
Unless you're a teenager or an idiot (same thing), don't take chops. You don't owe anyone a free pass to brutalize you for no good reason. If someone says to you, "Ok boy, it's time to pay your dues! Light this kid up!" That's bullshit. If you're around long enough, you'll see it a thousand times. That's an old school initiation ritual which I have grown to not respect at all. If you're green enough to let a group of guys brutalize you (who've only got, what, a few years on you?) then you don't seem to respect yourself, which is a benchmark of maturity. We're all supposed to be brothers. Even if no one says that in your training, it should be understood and take it to heart.
If you don't know how to do it, DONT do it. Although this includes lung blowers, back crackers, code reds, hoopy-ka-noopy whatchyamacallits, whatever, it also includes punches. So if one day early on you are having a little practice match in training, stick to what you've been taught. If you haven't done punches yet, well, keep it that way.
There are tons of other things, but just keep on keepin on for now. Good luck brohem. |

I stopped posting here a while ago, but I still casually kept up with it, looking for shows and such, and I saw this thread and felt the need to throw my two cents in.
You'll probably be doing a lot of bumping for your first couple sessions, and there is no such thing as too much, because your trainers will want to see if you really want to join this closed circle that is professional wrestling.
Alright, so maybe it's not so closed anymore, I mean shit, if the Gray Ghost can get a ring announcing gig, I guess anybody can be in the business these days.
kidding Ghost, lighten up, don't throw your notebook at me.
But anyways, as a poster stated earlier, go there with your eyes open, your ears open and your mouth shut. You are there to learn, just make sure to be all stretched out, warmed up and mentally prepared, it is far from easy.
And it only gets harder, but as hard as it is, it is rather fulfilling, so fear not young padawan, there is a light at the end of this tunnel.
With all this being said, best of luck to you. Enjoy it.
And now... back to not posting here. |

Real advice
-If it sounds like bull shit....it probably is.
-If you're wondering about the validity of the trainer...PM me who they are and I'll try my best to help you. That may sound loaded as I train people myself, but I think most people will tell you I'm honest enough to be on the level with you about this.
-Be respectful...but not awestruck. Remember the word "sir" and "mam" when addressing those involved.
-Wear high tops (if you don't have boots yet), kneepads and sweats your first time out.
-On a point someone else brought up...if someone is leaving too much of a physical mark or torturng you, don't put up with it. Don't get me wrong...there will be some times when impact, pain and a little stretching of your body will be required to sink a point home, and you can expect to be an ouchy mofo quite a bit...but prolonged torture of a wrestling student is the sign of a sadist, not a wrestling trainer. It's wrestling school, not Gitmo. |

"legitimate tips" from someone who never really was trained? i've seen your matches giusti and they're nothing to be proud of. you reek of backyard. as for chops, it's funny how you post about this being for idiots. just because you don't agree with an "old school initiation" doesn't mean its wrong. i'm waiting for the day that someone takes you to task for your know it all attitude and gives you another old school treatment, a good stretching. maybe that will take your tremendous holier-than-thou attitude down a friggin notch. its a perfect example of why you are an outsider in any locker rooms other than ncw. |

That's pretty harsh on MTE. I think the tips he gave were pretty descent. I don't get his obsession with planting your feet when running the ropes. Most of us slide the last foot, if the canvas is a good canvas it won't rip.
My biggest thing is that expect to be hurt, expect to be in pain. If you don't know who you're training with and how long they've been training find out right away. That's the biggest way you get hurt in training is running drills with someone who is equally as untrained as you are and the trainer running it at full speed. The Trainer should always try to run expirienced guys with less expirienced guys. It sucks when you're the expirienced guy, but usually the expirience will tell you to either slow down or speed up things.
If your first day you're learning something crazy walk out right away. I'm not joking. One of my days in a well known training facility I witnessed a guys first day the very first move he learned was back body drops, which I feel is a higher difficulty move. If you're put through higher difficulty moves before the basic stuff, run and seek out someone else. They're looking to get your money and get you out as soon as possible. |

Trust me when I say, these guys are for real. I trust them with doing good training and I've done a couple favors for them already so I don't think they'll beat me up just to take my money.
I'm not naming names, though. I have my reasons and certain people have given me their stamp-of-approval on these guys, so to speak. Or at least they said it's better than my other options up here.
Oh, and it's not "first day of school" in case there's any confusion on that. They don't have their "school" open yet and are doing one-session tryouts to see if the applicants can hack it.
But anyway, thanks for the tips guys. |
