the first two look really good. Body of lies Ive heard things about too. Religulous, eh, not for me probably, but for fans of those satirical films, it could be worth a look.

I saw Choke last nite, and I am going to see the bill maher movie next week. I had read the book Choke 3x, and i was highly dissapointed with the movie. I suggest this movie to people who havent read the book though, because my other friend said he enjoyed it.

I hadn't read the book either, and found the movie to be only so-so. Much of it seemed like a watered down version of Fight Club, with sex addiction substituting for fighting and psuedoanarchist philisophy. A lot it probably worked better in the novel that it did when acted out on screen. Director Clark Gregg doesn't seem to have a good feel for the material.

BTW: Anyone who isnt religious, hates religion, or doesnt believe in god... go see religious. Its smart, funny and VERY intelligently done. If your closed minded, very religious, or want to be married to god, avoid this movie at all costs. Now I have something to tell people when they ask me why im not religious.

I think making fun, satirizing, or criticizing religious beliefs is nothing more than an attempt to "cash in" and make a buck, as is any exploitation film.

And if you or anyone takes anything a movie says, as 100 pct truth, I feel sorry for you. Just because I am religious to a degree, I wouldn't jam it down someone's throat. By the same token, someone who tries to jam anti religious stuff, such as in a film, I'm not much for that either.

That all said, for those who enjoy such stuff, I hope u liked it.

BTW. Quarantine opens up this weekend. It is a remake of a Japanese film, but I just read a lengthy story on it in "Fangoria" and it sounds awesome. I may get a chance to check it out Saturday, not sure.

GG: It isnt making fun of it.... he is pointing out FACTS. He is interviewing people of all different religious backgrounds. He is also exposing the fact people are out there to cash in on religion. Theres also a guy who thinks he is the second coming of christ (for real) and runs a church and has people believing this. He also exposes how a lot of religious leaders are taking money and pocketing it. He also goes into why religion turns into war and why it shouldnt dictate politics.

He is simply trying to get people to see facts, and see what religion does to people, families and the world.

Well, its extreme tho FF. Religion to many people is an important part of their lives. But, like anything else, things can go overboard, and out of control, as with some things you stated. So, points taken.

FF & GG, what do you think of the ballot initiative to open the State Constitution and potentially pave the way for Gay Marriage?

Ive never really been on board with the gay marriage thing. Im not radically against it, but def not radically for it. It gets a bit overboard if you ask me.

I have no problem w gay "unions", I just don't care much for the term marriage being used. Regardless tho, there are a lot more serious things in the world to get upset over. People being happy matters a lot, no matter what the "law says".

Yeah, but I meant I didnt want to respond in the way you may have figured. Sorry.

As said tho, its a tough issue, with both sides having valid points. I'd say you could get some who say one thing, others will say something totally different.

Haha. Seems like I just summarized the presidential campaign so far. Smile

What are the valid points of the anti-gay marriage crowd? I've never heard any argument other than...The Bible is against it and it will ruin the fabric of society.

Well, those arguments were used for slavery as well as racially mixed marriages, and they were clearly wrong.

I don't see how giving one group the same rights the majority enjoys hurts the majority.

I think its more the word "Marriage" and what it means, in some religions. It means a man and a woman only. Again, its semantics IMO. I would prefer the word marriage to mean "man and woman", but I would never keep people apart in a union, whatever their choice. So, in that way, its a difficult area.

well yeah, that's the point. Religion should not be encoded in the Constitution. I don't care if it is called marriage, or they change the constitution to "civil union" for everybody. Its the rights that go along with it that are hurting people, and especially when they want to cross state lines.
