Why?

Nothing against PWU, but you have ROH and NEW run, plus enough small indies that are entertaining. I don't think we need another one, but that's just my opinion.

11-21UConn NCAA soccer vs Fairfield
11-22 Uconn Hockey vs RIT
11-24 WWE Raw
12-5 PGW
12-6 NEW
12-13 ECCW Sourbridge tbd
1-3-09 GHTBL Awards dinner. Bolton, CT.
1-10 FRW womens doubleheader show (tbd)
1-11/12 JACK IS BACK season seven.
1-16-09 EWA Palmer
1-31 Big Shot Mohegan Sun

Well... PWU doesnt seem like a mainstay in Philly, so, not sure why they feel other places will work better.

I can honestly see a Mike Milano doing something like this. PWU has a lot of great talent... and some not so great, and do have some pretty good promotional power. Im not sure how well this will work. Seems like PWU wanted to be like the AWA or the NWA was.

The final journey or just the beginning?

12/5 - PGW in East Haven, CT
12/6 - NEW in Waterbury, CT
12/13 - JAPW in Rahway, NJ
12/14 - CHIKARA in Philadelphia, PA
12/26 & 27 - Final Battle Weekend (tent)

Can't blame me if I don't consider NEW a legit indy, it really is more of a touring mark promotion, no real storylines, the names draw the fans and the cheap local workers make up the rest of the card with no rhyme or reason other then knowing the right people. Why should I cheer or boo when the win or loss doesn't matter? I've been to 3 NEW shows (Christian Cage's debut with the worst Kurt Adonis match ever, Kurt Angle's debut in which he didn't wrestle, and Jim Neidhart and Jerry Lawler in Torrington) hoping to see something special due to the hype, but I go to shows for strong in-ring action and atmosphere, not the lovechild of Dixie Carter and Vince McMahon. And what an ugly child it is.

I'd take PWU, a legit mid-level indy, over NEW any day of the week and twice on Sunday. I mean it's nice to have a hierarchy, you can see PGW, DPW and EPW for your smaller local indies to get your fill of the local scene, and ROH for a bit of a national/cult presence with some names you don't see too often, and NEW can stick around for all the name marks. and then PWU provides a mid-level indy presence with out-of-state talent.

The way I see it, with the patterns of how people run, with PGW running every couple months, DPW hoping to run monthly, NEW running every couple months and ROH running whereabouts of twice a year, there is certainly room for one more reliable indy.

I do realize I am leaving some promotions out, those are in fact the same companies that I don't care about. Other people do, so one concern that could rise is an oversaturation of the market.

So why not PWU? Loads of talent nobody sees around here, that's for sure. Which in turn, may inspire some of the PWU guys to get booked around here, allowing for more new matches in the other smaller indies around here. If Mike Milano enjoys the work of TJ Cannon, he can book a one time only with TJ Cannon vs Kid Mikaze.

And in turn, PWU can utilize local guys, see the talent they have and perhaps expose them to the Philly crowd. So if Frankie Arion, Andy Sweet or BMT catch the eye of the PWU brass, they could find their way into the New Alahambra. As CT fans who saw them first, would you not enjoy seeing your hometown heroes grow into a regional presence?

Keep in mind, this is all in an ideal situation if everything fires on all cylinders, but think of the possibilites, a new indy, new talent, and talent from here being exposed to a new crowd, helping them grow as workers. As long as PWU promotes like they do, this has the potential to grow into something.

FF: Do keep in mind, PWU was at one time a mainstay in Philly, who's to say they can't resurrect their former pieces of glory? They have solid workers for the most part and a good idea of how a cult indy show should be run. Just looking at their shows and how they promote them, I wouldn't be surprised to see an uprising, so long as they keep the behind-the-scenes bs in check.

Well, I went to a couple of their shows in Philly, and they had Kashmere, Acid, Sandman, Daniels, Cide, Briscoes, Devon Moore, Cpl Robinson, Aramis I believe and some others. There seems to have been a big change in the direction. That said tho, after reading a good explanation above, maybe it would be cool, esp if there is a "talent exchange" w them. The only issue I have is if there was a "tie in" to say DPW, that storylines would be fractured, and also that maybe MM or any other promoter wouldn't want to put these "non CT regulars" in high profile spots ? Plus, theres always a "talent availability issue".

Juke: I attended PWU twice... once at the ECW Arena (New Jack Surprise, Samoa Joe, Matt Sydal) and once at the Animal House (Sandman, Cide vs Acid title match) and both shows were great. Id go in a heartbeat if they came close, and, if it ever worked out, id go to more PWU events. Usually im working or have another show to go to. I checked out VPW and disliked it, so, id be happy to see the "new" PWU again!

From what I understand, PWU has taken a bit of a fall from grace in terms of talent usage, for instance, their upcoming card is as such

Quote:
MAIN EVENT
Teddy Fine vs. Sid
He grew up idolizing the superstar Sid, so what better way to show his respect and admiration than put his PWU Championship title on the line?

Fan Appreciation Night
Help us start off by making the next 4 years
better than the last 4 years!
Tickets for rows 1-3 are only $6 and tickets for rows 4 and back are only $5 if you order online. Tickets are $1 more at the door!! Johnny Kashmere and Maverick Omnicorp wanted to make this event special for all the fans of PWU! For only $5 more, you can get a pass to get in a half hour before general admission tickets and meet Sid and the stars of PWU!

Fans are encourage to wear their best Halloween costumes as the Kashmere Costume Contest is back! Several prizes will be given out throughout the night!

Joe Ettell has issued a challenge for anyone to face him in the barbed wire on a pole match!

Women's Hardcore Title Match
Missy Sampson vs. Amy Lee w/ Mike Trash

Bat Cave Interview Segment
Johnny Kashmere is back as he welcomes the Son of the Sandman, Twisted Sand!

Dr. Ruthless vs. Big Country

Lucky vs. Aramis
This will be the last ladder match between these young stars!

The Angus Brothers vs. New Jersey Allstars!

Also appearing...

Bill Apter of 1Wrestling.com will be doing commentary.

A Dark Realm segment with Helter Skelter.

Jedi Light Sabre Battle with actors in vintage Jedi costumes!

Johnny Kashmere, Jumpin' Joe Janello, Orange Cassidy, Twisted Sand, The Seven Foot Tall Giant Annihilation, Oscar, Rich Swann, Dr. Ruthless, Big Country and many more PWU stars are scheduled to appear!

Now I always welcome the usage of the NJ-All Stars, Kashmere, Joe Ettell and Teddy Fine, not to mention using Sid as a name, which seems to be a pattern. This pattern may hold and we may be exposed to a lot of new workers who may or may not be good, but this also may only be a phase due to the lack of funds or a feeling out process to see how much value the actual brand name of PWU currently holds i.e if they have a decent turnout at this show, then they may up the ante. One can only speculate at this point.

I was rather surprised to hear that VPW wasn't good, it looked promising on paper. Story of the indies though.

Invasion storylines are usually a death knell (with the exception of ROH/CZW, one of my favorite periods in wrestling.) So hopefully promoters would stay away from that. The beauty of the talent availability that you bring to light Ghost, is that because PWU brings such a core group, it would not necessarily be an issue, because if Frankie Arion couldn't work the show, Kid Mikaze could, and if he couldn't, Brian Fury could, and if he couldn't, Bobby Fish could, you see my point? PWU doesn't have to completely comprise its undercard of the New England faithful, just one, two, three names to give people someone close to home to root for while they get exposed to PWU's roster.

The issue of the placement of non-CT regulars on the card is simply based on the preference of the promoter. Bob Evans started bringing in Scotty 2 Hotty and immediately placed him at the top of the card in a program with top local guys in the company on a regular basis to establish him as a top guy. Because of this, Scotty 2 Hotty grew from typical ex-WWE talent to hot shot the gate, to beloved EPW regular and a guy who helps the entire show every time he is booked. And in turn, the guys who Scotty works with begin to look better and better in the eyes of the fans because of how they keep up with a guy who's made it to the top of the wrestling world.

If Mike Milano or Jason Knight took Johnny Kashmere and established him as an immediate threat to a top babyface in the same fashion that TRP did with Isys Ephyx (unknown heel outsider) attacking Jason Blade (beloved likable babyface), then you would have money for both parties, because Kashmere would become more and more hated in an intimate fashion the more he appeared, so long as he kept looking strong with each outing, and the babyface would be placed in the role of gatekeeper, defending the homeland from this arrogant outsider. There is no downside to this type of booking, because everyone benefits, and if DPW stopped using Kashmere for 3 months, and then brought him back, the DPW faithful would recognize the face and be more likely to flock back to the show to boo the life out of him. It is all about the workers and the promoters playing ball together, which creates more obstacles then anything else. In ideal circumstances, there is no downside to this method of booking.

At times, there is a hint of pessimism in what I write, and with the state of the indies the past couple years, you'd be hard pressed to blame me. But I do the best I can to keep my responses civil, even though I occasionally offer potshots here or there, as made evident by the PGW Battlefield thread. But all in all, I'm here to talk wrestling.

Mr. Nox, 9 times out of 10, your opinion is one to respect, but until you go to a show and give TBH a detailed breakdown as to why they deserve be labeled as the drizzling shits, your feeling will be discarded. Taking Mr. Fanatic up on his idea would be a good time.

As far as I'm concerned, it's hard working indy talent looking to grow their promotion. I still think this is a good idea, seeing as their promotional prowess is incredibly well-honed.

...Perhaps

<<< Under the influence and as a result, not completely thinking, my apologies.

Yep, that confused me too. Who knows, that's a weird match too, him and Sid, Lucky and Aramis would be the draw for me if I was in the area, as well as Anguses/NJAS.
