One Word Review: Sucked
More explanation (This may give away the movie):
Well, I was so excited to see this. I dont go to the movies much, but the fall season usually produces some great movies. My friend saw quarantine and said it sucked, but, i had high hopes for this flick. Well, it fell flat.
The good: A lot of unknown actors played very key roles in this one, the setting of the movie was very real and very well done. It was VERY graphic, and, its supposed to be.
The Bad: Everything else. The story started off fairly well, with a chain of people getting infected, then, as the movie goes on, more people are sent to this isolation building, where, its full of all blind people, except for one, who helps all of them. Id say in this building was only about 50 people or so, yet, eventually they show EVERYONE who is left in the city is blind and the city is left abandon, no one left, but the people infected, no running water, electricity, etc... So, they just fled the city after they sent the 50 blind people to this isolation building? Also, there was a group of "bad blind guys" who held other blind people, like himself, for money and jewelry in exchange for food... huh? After they got all there money and jewelry, they raped the women there in exchange for food. Eventually the one woman who could see killed the head bad guy while he and the other bad guys were raping the women, and then, banded together, and set fire to the building, killing the "bad guys" and walking outside. Normally when you walked outside, you would be shot, but, the military has disbanded and left them to die anyways, so, they go and explore the city, which, is in ruins and everyone is blind and some, dead. So they go through the struggles of finding food and etc, and then they go to the seeing woman's and blind husbands house, and set up camp there. Suddenly, one of the guys who is blind, can see. Everyone celebrates the fact he can see for a good 3 minutes. Then they show the seeing woman go outside, look up in the sky, and then back down, onto the city. End of movie.....
They NEVER explained how this guy could start seeing again, what caused it, nor if anyone else was able to see again. Did the city suddenly just get power back? What about the government, and, the rest of the world? Was this city cut off from the outside world, or not? What happened to the rest of the city? One of the WORST endings to a movie ive ever seen. Left you asking tons of questions for a movie that will probably have no follow up.
Overall, it fell flat. The "blind" acting wasnt very convincing at times, some of the stories they had were very blah and flat, like the blind guy with a gun, that could hold maybe 8 bullets, but never ran out of bullets. The graphic parts didnt bother me. The rape scene didnt either, as, it was part of the trials and tribulations of surviving in a male dominated area. The worst was the fact there were NO explanations given, and, you didnt get to see what happened between the time the few people in the city got this virus, to the time everyone had it. There was no middle. There was no end either. A guy suddenly regains his sight, and end of movie? What about everyone else?
Id give this movie a D, sadly. Not worth renting or going to in the theaters. |
