Hello everyone I am Mike and Welcome to the first installment of MarkOutWrestling.com VERSUS Interviews!
M: Today We have a Former MLW Global Tag Team Champion, NWA Intercontential Tag Team Champion, Pro Wrestling World-1 Tag Team Champion, PWF Universal Tag Team Champion, a staple of Extreme Championship Wrestling from June 1999-Feburary 2001, a former member of The Dangerous Alliance, current member of The Extreme Horsemen, The man who took Tommy Dreamer to the limit in their infamous "I Quit" Match, the subject of one of my favorite sites on the internet, ECWANDERSON.COM, The master of the Spinebuster, The best punch in Wrestling today and one hell of a superkick- None Other than "The Enforcer" Mr. C-Dub himself, The Manā, The Myth, The North Carolina Legend, C W ANDERSON!!!
So Glad for you to join us here CW, How About that for an introduction?
CW: Gotta say, that's one of the best intro's I've gotten in a long time. Someone's done their homework
M: CW, Not a lot of people know this but you were actually a 2-sport star and actually got drafted to play catcher for Major League Baseball's San Diego Padres. What made you decide that is not the road you wanted to take?
CW: Wrestling kinda played 2nd fiddle in my life. Never really thought I would end up being a wrestler but haven't looked back since I started. Once I got the word I was gonna be drafted as a catcher and about how much I was gonna get paid, my mom was dead set against it. She drilled into me to go get my education, that baseball would always be there. So I did that playing baseball at a college in Ohio. After being there 6 months I hyper extended my elbow trying to pick someone of first base from my knees. I always liked showing off my arm when I could cause I normally threw out runners without standing up. This was a big thing way before the huge Spanish invasion into baseball. So I came back home to rehab my arm and finished college in Kinston, NC. Never fully got back committed so I saw a friend of mine one weekend who was wrestling and he asked if I wanted to go with them to a show. I did and we got there early and they got me in the ring and starting showing me some things and it took off from there.
M: I understand that you went to training camp at the WCW's Power Plant. How was that experience and were there any other wrestlers we might know in that class?
CW: The tryout there was beyond brutal. Worst 3 days of my life. After making it through that it was great for a little while. I learned a lot from Seargant Buddy Lee Parker and Pez Whatley. In my class were Lash Leroux, Mike Sanders, Elix Skipper, Chuck Palumbo and a few other of the Natural Born Thrillaz.
M: After the Power Plant you got your big break with Extreme Championship Wrestling, Overall was it a good experience? Any Favorite Moments?
CW: Overall, yes. Some of the best days in my wrestling. Doing what you loved and being known for it. Some of my matches were my favorite moments including my "I Quit" match; the reaction I got from the fans afterwards was some thing I'll never forget and wars I had with Super Crazy. I'd say mostly thought traveling with my partners in crime Lou E. Dangerously, Jack Victory, Steve Corino, Francine and Tommy Dreamer.
M: Once ECW folded you went to Court Bauer's start up company Major League Wrestling and also became a charter member of the Extreme Horsemen. How did you enjoy your time there?
CW: I loved being at MLW. This time I wasn't the young boy on the block, We ran it. I didn't have to be that quiet mouse as I did in ECW cause I had my the name for myself and was one of the leaders in that locker room along with Corino and Simon Diamond
M: Following MLW you traveled across seas and competed / compete for Pro Wrestling Zero One as a singles competitor and a tag partner with Steve Corino. How is the whole Japan experience compare to the United States?
